How to Measure Bedroom Furniture Before Pickup
Measure the item, then measure the route it must travel.

Measure the furniture
Record height, width, and depth at the widest fixed points. For a dresser, include the top overhang. For a vanity, include attached mirrors. Note whether drawers, shelves, or legs are removable.
Measure the exit path
Check the bedroom door, hallway width, stair landing, elevator opening, building exit, gate, and loading position. Write down the smallest measurement instead of assuming the front door is the limiting point.
Empty and stabilize
Remove drawer contents, loose shelves, and personal items. Secure doors or drawers only with a method that will not damage the finish. Identify glass, loose joints, or a heavy top so the handling plan accounts for them.
Use a simple comparison table
Compare each item’s widest fixed dimension with the narrowest opening. Then compare height with ceiling limits around stairs. If the numbers are close, send photographs and let the provider assess the route.
Do not force the turn
Twisting while holding a bulky load increases risk. OSHA recommends turning with the feet and keeping loads close where possible. A route that requires force or an unstable angle needs another plan.
